Taraka Mantra – Rama Mantram to Chant

Sri Ra:maRa:maRa:methiRame: Ra:me Mano Rame:
Sahasranamathathulyamra:mana:mavara:nane
Shiva himself gets attracted by Sri Ramanaama and always chants this naama. For the souls dying at
Kaasi it is said that shiva whispers this raamanaama in their ears for mukthi. The vishnusahasranamam
contains 1008 holy names of Lord Vishnu. At the end, the Divine Mother Paarvathi puts a question to Shiva.
“Hey prabhu, what the wise consider equal to chanting 1008 names of Vishnu” For this question Shiva replies
“sriraamaramaramethi¦”. He starts addressing the naama with the title sri. Sri denotes Mahalakshmi
thethaayaar herself. Lord Shiva says that he is attracted by ramanama which is equivalent to thousands
names of Vishnu. So, all of us who are battling with time and yet want to chant the name of Lord Vishnu
can just say Rama Rama whenever we have time.
